A place to relax and unwind
West Sussex
Whenever we are asked what the most popular use for a building is we often say a garden home office, a spare room or additional living space for a family. These three categories are asked for a great deal but we have built hundreds of buildings for all types of uses over the years and one we are asked about fairly regularly is simply a relaxing space. A haven or sanctuary if you will where the owner can indulge in a hobby or simply have some valuable, quiet space to concentrate on as much or as little as they desire.
This building typifies just that. Tucked away in a raised position in a mature garden, this Garden Room is away from all of the distractions of the house. It doesn’t have Wi-Fi or satellite television or a telephone line. It is designed in order to offer an escape from all that.
The owners are both retired and love music. They both play instruments, one in a band and one in an orchestra so practice space was a key driver in this design. They also love to listen to music and to read which this little sun trap perfectly provides.

The elevated position offers wonderful views of the garden therefore picture framing that and providing an abundance of natural light was essential. This is a truly year round Garden Room and as such underfloor heating was installed. The building itself is extremely well insulated so underfloor heating is not altogether necessary, however it provides a wonderful sensation during the colder months and does not take up valuable wall space. An important consideration when having a lot of glass.
